Dear Friend of Open Space and the Shawangunks,
With New York State’s budget due in one week, it is crunch time for open space in the New York State budget. There is open space in the Shawangunks on the brink of being permanently protected, but the Governor wants to put land acquisition funds at zero. We cannot afford to put these protection efforts at risk.
Both the State Senate and Assembly have released their budgets. It appears that both restore some portion of the state land acquisition funds that the Governor’s budget zeroed-out. The final budget will be the result of negotiations between the Senate, Assembly and the Governor’s office.
If you weighed in on this issue only once or many times, right now would be the time that has the most impact.
All you need to do is pick up the phone and dial the number for Senate Leader John Sampson (518-455-2788) and/or Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (518-455-3791) and deliver the following message:
Hello, my name is (your name) and I live in (your town). I’m calling to tell Senator Sampson/Speaker Silver to restore the Environmental Protection Fund to $222 million in the State Budget.
The Environmental Protection Fund protects what I love most about New York. Thank you.
